Marco Mendoza will release his long-awaited new solo album, "Viva La Rock", on March 2 via Mighty Music. The disc was recorded in Copenhagen with the multi-talented producer and guitar player Soren Andersen (Glenn Hughes, Mike Tramp) at the helm. Here is another great review of 'Viva La Rock' from the Belgium Website Musika.be:

Anyone who does not know the name of bassist Marco Mendoza as a lover of classic hard rock, clearly lives on a different planet. After all, the man has played a resume to say "you". I call it Neal Schon (Journey), Whitesnake, Thin Lizzy and Ted Nugent. Nowadays he has been traveling around the world with The Dead Daisies, a relatively new band - started up in 2012 - with many experienced artists in the ranks (among others Deen Castronovo, Doug Aldrich, David Lowy and John Corabi made or make always part of this ensemble). In between all this work, Marco also found some time to deliver an album under his own name. Musically, the man really stays close to what he brings with the aforementioned bands: classic hard rock that sporadically gets a bit of funk or blues. But here he is not only the bass player but he also takes care of the vocals and they fit perfectly with the cutting and catchy classic hard rock that the man puts down with Soren Andersen (guitar, backing vocals) and Morten Hellborn (drums). Together with Soren, Marco wrote eight tracks for this 'Viva La Rock' and they sound timeless, just as the genre prescribes: a solid and solid basis of drums and bass, handsome riffs, melodic guitar solos and powerful clean vocals. Everything is available to allow this solo project to rise to higher levels on the metal ladder. Besides those eight songs, Marco Mendoza also makes for a very decent cover version of Thin Lizzy's 'Chinatown' (with extra guests as vocalist Mike Tramp and guitarist Richard Fortus) and a very driven homage to Ted Nugent thanks to 'Hey Baby'. But beware: his own tracks are not in vain, so that you can really enjoy - certainly as a lover of the genre - from the first notes of 'Viva La Rock' to the last notes of 'Let It Flow'. Marco Mendoza will be touring with The Dead Daisies later this year if they are still shy of a support act, they should not go too far!

Here is a review of 'Viva La Rock' from the pages of the German Magazine Rock-It.

Special thanks to: Maximilian Witt, one of Marco's fans who was nice enough to translate this to English!

"Amazing that the sympathetic musician found time to compose his own songs, after all he has plenty to do with The Dead Daisies. His ten songs show lots of creativity and are never of the same shape. The name of the album paves the way, since Mendoza celebrates Rock and lives it authentically. Be it the opener and title track, 'Sue Is On The Run' or 'Burned', there is a lot of sweaty Rock which makes for a good mood. Ex-White Lion singer Mike Tramp helps with the vocals on the Thin Lizzy cover 'Chinatown', the band for which he played the bass for several years. 'Love 2 U' is some groovy track while the softer 'Leah' flatters the earcups. Another cover, recognizable probably only to experts, is the 1975 Ted Nugent song 'Hey Baby'. Mendoza does not only play bass on all tracks but is also the main vocalist, which he does exceptionally well."

Interview: Dead Daisies bassist, Marco Mendoza discusses his new solo album, 'Viva La Rock'

Read a Review of Viva La Rock from VIRI AOR

viri aor

When you are honest with yourself and you surrender to your work with enthusiasm, when, despite the swings of the minute hand and your pulse with trends you stay true to your philosophy, the scale that measures your effort will always yield to your favor. Seldom could I say something with a certain boldness, but, call me a dreamer, I still believe that there is reward after honesty. This is the premise of which I leave after having been compulsively placed, as a high-sphere addict lacking any concern, with the new album by the well-known Marco Mendoza.

It is impressive to revisit the group of groups in which the virtuoso bassist has left a mark: WHITESNAKE, THE DEAD DAISIES, ALIAS, BLUE MURDER, TED NUGENT, BLACK STAR RIDERS, JOHN SYKES, RIPPER OWENS, DOLORES O`RIORDAN (THE CRAMBERRIES) and so on. until a long etcetera that culminates with three discs under its authorship.

The second day of March 2018 will see the light this unpretentious pulse of reinventing the music industry, indifferent to ambition to change the world and that on the contrary, makes it a warmer place, less world. A disc that is easy to catch, direct (my restless imagination adorns each song with effusive applause, as if the pull was executed before me).

Soren Andersen on the six strings and the choirs and Morten Hellborn on drums, (both of the Glenn Hughes band) are sure to squeeze all the instrumental juice out of this handful of flavorful songs. The frequencies that radiate Marco's vocal cords fit into Hughes's characteristic ranges (removing the magnificence of the master but retaining the claw, style and a noble distinction) blooming as an influence and maturing in a respectful homage to someone unmatched.

Viva La Rock opens fire with its powerful hard rock. Of seventy bill, eighties streak and blues temperance, merged with each other and revitalized to the present, airing a whole declaration of intentions that not only convinces, but drags you to the cause without questioning.

Less rude, more refined for the general palate , although possessed by the same spirit Sue Is On The Run is succeeded . His veteran refrain, submerged in the depth of an ethereal guitar, advises to stay alert and not habituate to unalterable canons.

With a similar root, the biker Rocketman (who does not give up, with his mafioso swing rhythm, to the imperatively partying march with which we are being called up) and Sweetest Emotions , a splendid display of percussions, wind sections and aroma of love more pure by the American road classics.

Chinatown , THIN LIZZY's undying landmark, excellently honored with the invaluable help of Mike Tramp(WHITE LION) and Richard Fortus (G'N'R). Words are unnecessary.

Burned, with more accentuated reminiscences of Glenn Hughes and his colorful chromatic vision, adorn a theme that breaks with the anteroom in which we have settled and guides us through the hall of bravery. Betting on newer sounds and moderate restraint, it is provided with enough intensity to not leave our attention behind.

Disciple of the previous tonic but with a predominance of funk flavor, Love 2 U is uncovered . A prelude of Beatle choirs travestied by the discoteque environment, they sail conjugated with a light blues, where a Hammond organ appears and disappears like a ghost wandering among the decibel fog in which we are immersed.

The romanticism of some modern whitesnake and the melodic elegance of solitary John Sykes understand the wonderful sensitivity of a Leah that gives us a moment of intimacy to appreciate the simplicity of surrendering to beauty. An elegant tribute to the key moment in many albums of the eighties, solved with wonderful school.

As Mendoza's voice announces, this will be another tribute, but this time to the great Ted Nugent. In a minimalist way, without much more than the affectionate surrender to the classic Hey Baby, our verbiage is snatched up again.

Let It Flow,In its early stages, it makes me travel to the beautiful Sarah, perhaps because of nostalgia, of Phil Lynott's. Turning to a facet that deepens intimacy, and that refutes the constant presence of the voice of rock in this final section of the album. Deli.

I take off my hat with such a collection of attitudes to suit each consumer (each with its particular story described by Mendoza). But I even praise his mood when facing a new physical disc in the times, not because they run, but those who want us to believe that many artists run and their lack of commitment and creativity. Live the Rock !!! Viva Marco Mendoza !!!

From MetalKaoz.com:

Marco Mendoza: ''Viva La Rock'' Album, Tour Info
Marco Mendoza, the Los Angeles native who has a proud Spanish / Mexican heritage is usually found holding down the bass Rock foundation with artists like Neal Schon (JOURNEY), WHITENSAKE, THIN LIZZY, Ted Nugent and can currently be found with new classic Rock champions THE DEAD DAISIES, have posted information about his upcoming "Viva La Rock" album.
During the fall, Marco signed a worldwide record deal with Danish label Mighty Music and has spent time in Denmark recording the album with multi-talented producer and guitar player Søren Andersen (Glenn Hughes, Mike Tramp, ELECTRIC GUITARS). The Søren / Marco collaboration proved to be the right way forward with the chemistry exploding in the studio, writing and producing some of the finest new Rock songs that are screaming out to be heard through a radio somewhere in the world.
With the title track "Viva La Rock" thrusting out of the speakers as a worthy invitation to come and listen, Marco then takes you on a rollercoaster of musical emotions and sounds with a number of potential hit singles like "Rocketman", "Sue Is On The Run" and the ballad "Leah". With a cauldron full of influences caressing Marco's Rock sound including blues, funk and R ‘n B, there is something for everyone that loves great music, and for good measure there a little of his past thrown in with a visit to "Chinatown" from THIN LIZZY, complete with a guest appearance by GUNS 'N' ROSESguitarist Richard Fortus and Danish star Mike Tramp on additional vocals, then the Ted Nugent cover, "Hey Baby".
"Viva La Rock" is a major priority release for Scandinavia's premier Rock / Metal label Mighty Music, which in recent years has grown to become one of the more important record labels within the genre worldwide, not least due to successful releases with TYGERS OF PAN TANG, Mike Tramp and BLITZKRIEG.
"Viva La Rock" is to be released on March 2, 2018 on ltd. colored LP, CD and digital and on the 19th of January the title song from the album will be out as single and music video.

dead daisies argentina

A hook to the chin ... so was the passage of the Dead Daisies for Argentina. A group that, on the one hand, has the stellar presence of musicians of long trajectory, and that, on the other, their members were together for the first time to bring a new proposal. Faced with this uncertainty, music triumphed and people who attended the Vorterix theaters in Buenos Aires and Rosario were privileged witnesses of the revalidation of the laurels achieved by these monsters over the years.

Click here to read a great article (in Spanish) about the Dead Daisies ground breaking trip to Cuba and how it influenced the recent visit by The Rolling Stones to Cuba ~

Marco Mendoza (center) with members of the band The Dead Daisies during his trip to Havana. Bassist Darryl Jones is flanked by Bernard Fowler and Rolling Stones. Photo: Yander Zamora

The band The Dead Daisies wants to repeat his trip to Cuba later this year and is "very proud" to have drawn the attention of other famous groups like own Rolling Stones, says Marco Mendoza, bassist of the American supergroup, in interview telephone with Granma from the US city of Los Angeles.

"We are very proud to have attracted the attention of famous bands like the Rolling themselves Stones, who realized the event and encouraged to play in Cuba," says legendary American musician of Mexican origin, who is part of The Dead Daisies with Bernard Fowler and Darryl Jones of the Rolling Stones; Dizzy Reed and Richard Fortus of Guns N 'Roses; John Corabi, Motley Crue; Brian Tich, Whitesnake and Ozzy Osbourne, and David Lowy, Red Phoenix.

The band gave two concerts in Havana in February 2015 at the Maxim Rock, headquarters of the Cuban Rock Agency, and the Salon Rosado de la Tropical, where they shared the stage with Beatrix Lopez, David Blanco and Roberto Perdomo, among other musicians . "They were very healthy collaborations with Cuban rock musicians. They are artists full of passion and talent. We liked to record with them, "says Mendoza.

Bernard Fowler singer and bassist Darryl Jones, as stated, alternate their commitments to the Rolling Stones work in Dead Daisies. Both musicians assured in Havana that would talk with Jagger and Keith Richards about his experiences in Cuba and would encourage travel to the island with the Rolling. "Bernard spoke with them about the possibility of a presentation in Cuba and was organizing idea. We are very excited about the concert that finally offered the Rolling. They are very humble and professional musicians. It will be an amazing place to encourage Cubans who visit other large groups right now, "he says.

Born in 1963 in California, she says bassist Dead Daisies hopes to return to Cuba soon alongside other rock heavyweights like Kiss or Whitesnake. "We've been touring with Def Leppard, Whitesnake and Kiss and we would go with them to Cuba. That idea we are thinking hard and hope to concretize before year-end. Def Leppard and Kiss always ask us what we have to do to play in Cuba, "he says.

During his visit the band recorded two songs from their second album released in 2015 under the name Revolution. "The album we started recording in Cuba. We motivated the passion of the people and their culture. There is no doubt that this album was inspired by the trip to Cuba. On the other hand, we feel that the music industry is in a bad moment and wanted to carry out our own revolution. "

The Dead Daisies just finished recording their third album due out in August and September."We just record a new album. It has no title yet but we have many songs. The truth is that Dead Daises still together as a band because we intend to grow as artists and musicians. We'll keep for a long time and go on playing our music and giving concerts around the world, "said Mendoza.

"The Rolling Stones will not withdraw from the stage in a long time. They are fine and will be acting more than any other band in history ", says Granma production director of the famous British group, Dale Skjerseth, on a tour of the grounds of the capital's sports complex where it is already the stage for the highly anticipated Stones concert, on 25 March.

Dale, who has worked with the Rolling since 1995, hopes the concert in Havana break the attendance record of the on Copacabana beach in Rio de Janeiro, a show that met in 2006 to more than 1.3 million fans from all over Brazil and abroad as part of the Bigger Bang world tour."They are eager to come to deliver their music to the Cuban people. I hope to break attendance record in Havana, "he says.

The concert in Havana, where he will share the stage with the choir Entrevoces, directed by Digna Guerra, will be the end point of the tour by the Rolling Latin America that started last February under the name Olé Tour. The last stop of the band before landing in Havana was in Mexico where they dispatched two large concerts in which they put to boil the audience with classics like Gimme Shelter and Satisfaction. "Every night they change the show but not stop playing the classics. Are great concerts in which wasted a lot of energy, "he explains.

Dale says the concert will be "surprising" and that attendees "will never see something like this .""In Cuba you will never again see something like what will happen at the concert. It will be an amazing show. There will be no opening act for the Rolling Stones want the night to themselves. "
The producer explains that he has received great support from Cuba and is" very satisfied "with the way it has advanced the preparation of the concert. "Cuba opened the doors from the beginning. We have received the full support of the Cuban authorities and has been a challenge to learn and to teach people how to work. "

For Rolling says, this concert will be something very special. "The visit to Cuba will be something special for them. We've brought everything. A Rolling like to travel with their own equipment. We also know that all they have done throughout its history has become a milestone ".
The show will not be broadcast live on television because they do not allow the image rights of the band, but will be recorded by the team Stones in a documentary, which could then be projected on the island.

The doors of the Sports City will open to the public on Friday 25 from 2:00 pm The concert will begin at 8:30 pm and will last two hours and 15 minutes, but Dale does not rule out the possibility that lengthen a little plus. "If it spreads it will only band decision. I know they will talk to Cuban rockers and the audience from the stage, from music. It will be something impressive. "

New York, NY (January 28th, 2016) - The Dead Daisies are proud to announce the addition of Doug Aldrich to the lineup as lead guitarist of the powerful music collective. Guitarist Richard Fortus and keyboardist Dizzy Reed will be stepping aside to be a part of a momentous project in 2016.

Aldrich is currently in Nashville with the Daisies working with producer Marti Frederiksen (Aerosmith, Gavin Rossdale, Motley Crue, Buckcherry) on their follow up to the album Revolucion, released last year following the bands trip to Cuba, where the classic rock group were part of a cultural exchange as guests of the Cuban Ministry of Culture, Cuban Institute of Music and the Cuban Rock Agency. The still untitled album will be released globally on SPV Records later this year.
Aldrich joins bassist Marco Mendoza (Thin Lizzy, Whitesnake), guitarist David Lowy (MINK, Red Phoenix), John Corabi (Motley Crue, The Scream) on vocals and Brian Tichy (Ozzy Osbourne, Billy Idol) on drums.

"I'm very, very happy to join my friends Marco, Brian, John and David in the next chapter of The Dead Daisies," proclaims Aldrich. "I love the band and I'm looking forward to getting busy on the new record. This band is bringing back a raw, back to the bones sound that a lot of groups go for but The Dead Daisies are looking to nail. At this point in time, we are looking to have a kick ass Rock 'n' Roll album in the can by spring 2016."

Fortus couldn't be happier, saying: "When we started speaking about finding someone to replace me, the first suggestion I had was Doug Aldrich. It doesn't get any better than Doug in my book. I am so happy that he is able and willing to step in and take over. I think that it will elevate the band to the next level. Thanks to everyone that has supported the Daisies over the last couple of years. Stay tuned to see what they come up with next. I'm sure you won't be disappointed!"

David Lowy, one of the original founders of The Dead Daisies said: "We're really going to miss Richard and Dizzy. It's been a privilege and a pleasure to write, record and perform with such talented world-class musicians and all-around great guys. I've personally learnt so much from both of them. We're very excited to announce Doug Aldrich will be joining The Dead Daisies in the lead guitar role. Doug was Richard's first pick to replace him. He's a highly accomplished musician, performer and songwriter and we're really looking forward to Doug joining us as the Dead Daisies adventure rolls on."

Marco Mendoza couldn't be more excited as well of course. "Doug and I shared the stage for many years with Whitesnake and have been involved in many recording sessions and projects. He is a powerful guitar player and performer, can't wait to bring him in on our next efforts in the studio and on the road. VIVA LA ROCK!"

Since exploding onto the scene in 2013, The Dead Daisies have taken the Classic Rock world by storm, releasing two albums to date & touring with the biggest names in rock including: ZZ Top, Aerosmith, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Bad Company, Judas Priest, KISS and Def Leppard. 2015 was a banner year that saw the band release their 2nd album, make a historic visit to Cuba, join the line-up for some of the biggest European Rock Festivals including Download and Graspop, tour around the globe with Whitesnake and KISS as well as play a sold out triumphant headline show in Paris. The band then returned to the UK for the first time in two years to play a series of Sold Out club shows, including the special guest slot at Planet Rock Stock in Wales.

With the year having just started, The Dead Daisies are well underway to continue to rewrite the book on Classic Rock. With a killer new album in the works, massive touring being booked and fueled by their ever-growing fan base, the band is showing no signs of letting up.
Rock 'n' Roll is alive and well!!!
